The recent hike in subscription charges for Netflix has irked many subscribers. The price changes that add up to $6 to the monthly bills of subscribers for unlimited streaming video and DVD rentals may have far reaching consequences for Netflix and its operations. The changes will be in place for all new members and from September 1 for the current subscribers.
Netflix fears that the internet service providers will hamper their business by placing data caps on online entertainment. It is retreating from its mail order DVD business and focusing on subscribers who only want to subscribe to DVDs.
Jessie Becker, Netflix's Vice President of Marketing says that they are confident that most of its 23 million subscriber base will still need the DVDs and hence they have created a management team for DVDs by mail.
This step by Netflix is to reduce the DVD only plans which prove to be huge weight on the bottom line of the company in terms of postage, inventory and handling. Streaming is cheaper and hence could change the entire module of operations.

Netflix recently faced the wrath of their customers as they raised the prices without improving their services. But Netflix has something interesting to offer nowadays, their online streaming is now available with Nintendo 3DS gaming consoles.
Nintendo 3DS users across U.S. and Canada can download a free Netflix application from the Nintendo eShop, and enjoy the unlimited streaming of movies and T.V. episodes from Netflix on their 3DS consoles. The Netflix application relating to the Nintendo 3DS will require a broadband connection and a Netflix streaming plan starting at $7.99 per month.
The Netflix application actually allows the Nintendo 3DS users to enjoy the streaming of movies and T.V. soaps in 2D and not in 3D, as it only uses the upper screen of the device for the screening.s

Hulu Plus is offering its video-streaming service on four more Android-based smartphones, namely: HTC's Evo 4G, ThunderBolt, MyTouch 4G, and G2. Hence, Hulu Plus is now supported on 10 Android-based devices. Hulu Plus arrived on the Android platform just last month. It is already available on the iOS platform and a wide range of products outside the mobile space, including the PlayStation 3, certain HDTVs, and TiVo boxes.
Hulu Plus costs USD 7.99 per month. However, unlike Netflix users, Hulu Plus users still have to sit through advertisements.
Hulu Plus is extending support to more Android handsets in hope to find a buyer for its service. Although Google and Yahoo have shown interest in buying Hulu Plus, there are no signs of dealings taking place with either.
